I’ve been asked quite frequently if binaryHealthCare.com has a logo so here goes

Granted that it is rather ‘amateur-ious’ but I reckon it serves the purpose

Hmmm, seems that my past few post are all ramblings and updates.
I’m currently off on a business trip on Malaysia and would be back on Friday, I am also working in my limited spare time on the two user groups (read more here).
I’d have to say things are looking good, in fact, I’m very excited on getting both launch! It will rock our the Healthcare Informatics industry in Asia!
Till my next update

I made a trip to Sun Microsystem (Singapore) yesterday and thought I blog about it.
Firstly, I must admit that in my entire career, I have never really bothered with the offerings from Sun and that is mainly due to the fact that I worked mostly on Microsoft’s suite of Operating Systems. Yes, I meddled with Mandrake, Suse and of course – Red Hat but its not really the same.
So why the ’sudden change’? Well, Sun is promoting their Wintel Servers and I was invited for a little educational session to understand and review the possibility of deploying them in my solutions.

Well, I believe in giving credit when its due so here goes – kudos to HL7 Singapore for finally setting up the website (after a month of it’s official launch), check out www.hl7.org.sg for their updated look.
In all honestly, I still feel that the content is lacking but in all honestly, its being run by a bunch of ‘volunteers’ so one cannot ask for too much (although they do get money sponsors and membership…)
Still, check them out.

I have created a new page entitled “User Group” which will serve as a gateway to two particular Imaging Informatics User Groups that I have help pioneering.
There are exciting things there’s coming up and still, I wish this is my full-time job, I reckon I can get alot of things done much faster.
Drop me an email if you have a burning desire to contribute to either initiatives

Its approaching a month since the official launch of the HL7 Singapore Chapter, while my employer has signed up for corporate membership, I personally am very disappointed at the lack of progress from the local chapter.
Aimed at promoting HL7 as the standard of choice for our industry, the local chapter’s website has pretty much remained the same – showing the launch event invitation, except with an indication that the event is over.

This is an interesting piece that talks about increasing compression ratio for medical images in order to streamline its transmission.
According to Eliot Siegel, MD, professor and vice chair of information systems, University of Maryland Department of Diagnostic Radiology, and director of imaging at VA Maryland Healthcare Systems, there is “an increasing mismatch between our clinical image production and our storage and network capacity and bandwidth.”
We Dr. Siegel, you can say that again.

I chanced upon this this little sales advert on medicalimagingmag.com.
It goes like this,
“LUMEDX Corporation, Oakland Calif., has introduced the latest version of its cardiology PACS software, called CardioPACS 5.0.
The multi-modality, Web-enabled and vendor-neutral CardioPACS 5.0 was designed to better manage images and data with a fully integrated, customizable suite of applications, modules and interfaces.
In addition to offering real-time review of images from any network-connected PC, CardioPACS 5.0 can be integrated with other systems, such as other PACS, EMR, and HIS. Other features include on-demand workstations capable of imaging for multiple clinical areas, advanced, integrated analysis tools such as left ventricle angiography analysis and intravascular ultrasound analysis, high-speed access achieved through MPEG4 compression algorithms, clinical data integration capability, and single sign-on to multiple applications.”
Can someone tell me what is new in the text above? I seriously don’t see anything innovate or exciting?
Am I missing something? Do advise me if I am.

Intel has received market clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a new personal telehealth system, called Intel Health Guide.
Tested in the US and UK, this new telecare device is described as “a care management tool” for healthcare professionals who manage patients with chronic conditions.
